About Me - Cynthia Hope

Member, MTNA Music Teacher’s National Association

A woman with gray hair wearing glasses, a pink scarf, and a striped shirt playing a grand piano indoors, with colorful tapestries hanging on the walls.

I began playing piano when I was eight years old. My family brought home a very old piano, and I remember being completely captivated by the idea of making music.

Like many students, I experienced both ups and downs with lessons, but over the years something in me always stayed connected to the piano.

As I grew older, I became more serious about my studies and eventually auditioned for college music programs. I was accepted into several schools and chose to attend Indiana University.

Life didn’t follow a straight path from there. During the Vietnam War era, my focus shifted, and my formal studies were interrupted. But I never let go of music.

Wherever I lived, I found or rented a piano and continued to play.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of studying with remarkable teachers, including:

  • Roman Rudnitsky

  • Dr. Roberta Rust

  • Jacquelyn Helin

  • Peter Kater

  • University of Santa Barbara Music School

  • North Idaho School of Music

My path has also taken me into many other areas of study, including:

  • Yoga (Yasodhara Ashram)

  • Teaching and running a home yoga studio

  • Spiritual psychology

  • Process painting

  • Human Design

All of these experiences shape how I teach today.
